- For complete combustion, fuels need the certain quantity of oxygen (present in Air) in order to give useful heat.
- If only net (stoichiometric) air is supplied combustion may be incomplete.
- To ensure complete combustion, combustion chambers are supplied with excess air.
- Too much Excess Air may take away useful heat and increase losses.
- For best efficiency optimum quantity of Excess Air must be supplied.
SENSIBLE HEAT Sensible heat produces a rise or fall in temperature of substance Sensible heat does not change physical state of substance LATENT HEAT Latent heat changes the state of substance i.e. Liquid to Gas, Solid to Liquid and Liquid to Solid in case of boiler . Latent heat does not cause temperature change in the substance
