6 MAJOR BOILER FEEDWATER IMPURITIES

6 CAUSE OF PRIMING

Priming Priming is the violent action of water in the boiler, in which water droplets are carried away along with steam . Causes Organic matter in the boiler water Suspended solids in the boiler water Soap like substance in boiler water High Alkalinity Operating boiler at a steam pressure below the design pressure Too high water level, which will encourage Priming especially when the load Changes from low to high. Effects Harmful for the valves of boiler Can be dangerous for the life of boiler operator Heat Transfer is adversely affected. Steam consumption may increase due to lesser enthalpy Remedy Maintain the concentration of solids in boiler water at the low level. Proper blow down of total dissolved solids
